Debbie Loiselle
has changed her life by eating exercise for breakfast, lunch, and
dinner.
Today, Debbie bikes to work for breakfast, takes
lunch at Capital Fitness, and bikes home for dinner. She has slowly
adopted these healthy aspects into her life after her car broke
down in 1987 and she had to ride her bike.
Debbie found herself enjoying her bike rides to
work and continued to bike to work for years, but did not feel
that she was in shape from the waist up. That is when she read
an advertisement for a new health club and met with a nice woman
in the basement of a building on Johnson Street. That day, Debbie
took a leap of faith. She filled out paperwork and paid monthly
dues to a health club facility that was not yet built. That club
was Capital Fitness. Debbie was one of the first members to walk
through the doors when we opened in March of 1999.
Debbie was excited to come into the club everyday
and use the machines. Unfortunately, because she did not change
her routine, Debbie became bored with the machines and stopped
seeing physical results. Luckily, Capital Fitness General Manager,
Stephanie Von Stein, suggested that Debbie might like to try some
classes. At the time, Debbie was able to sign up for 10 PowerFlex
classes (This class is now called Functional Flex.) for twenty
dollars. (We are so lucky to get to take all of the classes for
free now!) These PowerFlex classes were the beginning of Debbie's
love for weight training. It took some time though; Debbie will
admit to not being able to sit at her desk for three days after
her first class with Katie because her muscles were so sore.
Debbie also found that she enjoyed Trekking. At
first, she walked the entire class. She would then run for fifteen
minutes and eventually worked up to thirty minutes. Debbie then
added a challenge for herself. She would run one mile before class
began. Her goal was to be able to run three miles in thirty minutes.
She reached that goal and still runs one day a week and completed
a four mile News Years Eve run in Central Park in a little over
forty-nine minutes.
By taking multiple classes in different disciplines,
Debbie was keeping herself mentally motivated. She was also seeing
more physical results. However J she still wanted to accomplish
more. That is when Debbie began taking Functional Flex from Kristin
and found that she really enjoyed her training style. Debbie talks
about those classes by saying, "There were times when I was
in class with as many as eight people, yet I still felt [as if
Kristin] were training me individually." Debbie now takes
trains with Kristin one day a week individually to help her meet
her changing goals.
Today, Debbie is forty-seven years old and continues
to bike to work 365 days a year. She says that working with a personal
trainer is,"...a must do at least once. You learn your weak
points, your strong points, and increase your stamina." Capital
Fitness has personal trainers with a variety of backgrounds and
training styles because we feel it is important for people to be
able to work with a personal trainer that will be able to most
effectively meet the member's goals with a training style they
are comfortable with. With a changing program, group exercise classes,
and the help of a personal trainer, Debbie Loiselle has gotten
in shape and made exercise part of her lifestyle.
