Natalia
Aiello
Natalia completed her Interdisciplinary 200-hour Yoga
Alliance certification with the Nosara Yoga Institute in
Costa Rica (www.nosarayoga.com) where she began to see her
yoga as a dance with spirit and nature. In addition to her
Master's in Transformative Leadership from the California
Institute of Integral Studies
(www.ciis.edu) and certification as a Doula, Natalia's education
includes a background in Spanish, Italian and Peace Studies.
Natalia's approach to yoga searches for movement, meaning
and meditation through rhythmic flows, organic transitions,
attentive assists and jammin' tunes. She strives to facilitate
a playful environment that encourages students to listen
to their bodies and intuition while meeting new challenges
both on and off the mat.
Robin Baartman
Certified Pilates Instructor
Robin has always been fascinated with movement.
Dancing her way through life, she earned a B.S. in Dance
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, served as an
adjunct instructor for UW Extension, and currently performs
with Li Chiao-Ping Dance Company.
Pilates has brought her dancing to the next level and opened
another realm of body awareness. Robin believes Pilates works
to educate and balance the muscles of the body, serving as
a bridge between mind and body, everyday life and optimal
performance, rehabilitating an injury and healthy movement,
and residing in an unaware body and realizing your vessel's
full potential.
Pete Brown
ACE Certified Personal Trainer

Pete Brown began his career at Capital Fitness as an intern,
and is currently a personal trainer as well as the front
desk manager. Pete is a graduate of North Central College
where he played football, and received degrees in both Exercise
Science and Psychology. Pete has a special interest in training
athletes, but he really enjoys training people of all fitness
levels that are willing to work hard. His passions include:
working out, hiking at Devil's Lake, reading, and teaching
others how to workout.
Gregory Ferger
Gregory Ferger has been a mainstay of the Capital Fitness
team since 2001. He has been our resident massage therapist
since that time, and continues to practice massage at Elevation
Spa/Salon. Management knew Gregory had the perfect personality
and energy to be a Group Exercise instructor, and he became
certified in BodyPump and BodyStep. Gregory loves the
energetic and dynamic nature of group exercise. He
loves that moment during a class when the hours of practice
and training are reflected through the smiles and energy
of his class participants.
Laura
Flanagan
Yoga, Trekking, Indoor Cycling, Group Exercise 
Laura takes fitness to another level at Capital Fitness.She
is always creating a new way to get or stay in shape and always
keeps it fun.
Laura’s main fitness passion is Yoga, which she has been
practicing since 1992 and teaching since 1998. She incorporates
a Yin style of poses with the Vinyasa style of breath. She
also uses essential aspects of Iyengar, Ashtanga and Anusara
Toga in her teaching along with Pranayama and other meditation
styles.
Laura, an certified American Council on Exercise Aerobics instructor, also takes
pride in her triathlon-style group exercise classes that offer a great aerobic
workout as well as a solid entire body strengthening experience.
Taylor Franklin
Taylor has been an artist and dancer all of her life and finds that expressive movement opens up our hearts and bodies to a completely new level of fitness and confidence in life. She also enjoys teaching others, and finds that dancing as a group gives a unique energy and power to the atmosphere.
Taylor received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in Education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She also recently finished her coursework for a Master’s Degree in Art Education at UW-Madison and is focusing her thesis work on Dance and Movement. During this time, Taylor has studied African Dance, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and Body-Mind Centering. She has most recently been a performer in the UW Dance Department’s African Caribbean exhibitions. Taylor has taught Funk/Hip Hop through UW Group Fitness, various health clubs, and community education and recreation programs in Minnesota and Madison, and she looks forward to teaching here at Capital Fitness.

Brian
has been training in Madison since 1994. He has thousands
of hours of training education and hands-on experience helping
people with weight loss, general fitness and athletics.
As a part-time instructor at M.A.T.C. in
the P.E. Department, Brian stays active with various fitness
and sports activities. He believes that a person will, “Reap
what they sow.” Make physical activity a part of daily
life.
Katie
Hawkins
Group Exercise, Trekking,
Katie has been teaching fun and inviting group exercise classes
for over ten years. She has kept up in the classroom for
so long because she loves help people reach their fitness
goals while they are having fun and high on endorphins.
Katie takes her love of fitness to many local races and “Team Crybaby” when
she gets the chance. She is also teaching her young son Timmy to bike, swim,
run and adventure hike.
She is an A.C.E. certified personal trainer and aerobics instructor and carries
certificates to teach Trekking, BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyAttack, and BodyCombat.

a variety of classes that will keep you on top of your game.
Taking from her Personal Training background, she keeps all
her classes exciting with the latest training techniques.
For the past seven years Kristin has been teaching classes
and personal training at Capital Fitness, working with an
incredibly diverse clientele.
She has a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of
Wisconsin Madison and is an A.C.E certified fitness professional.
She can be spotted hitting the weights regularly and often
participating in local sporting events.

Juedes
Indoor Cycling
Sue, a certified Keiser Cycling Instructor, has been teaching
at Capital Fitness for over three years. With her extensive
background in cycling, she brings her knowledge and energy
to all of her classes. In 2004 Sue accomplished
her life-long goal of becoming a professional cross-country
mountain biker with the National Off-Road Mountain Biking
Association (NORBA) and USA Cycling International (UCI).
Join Sue for a fast-paced cycling class that will make you think you’re
outside pedaling among the trees.
Cody Jussel
Brazilian Beat
Cody brings a little south of the border style to Capital Fitness with Brazilian
Beat.
For over 10 years Cody has been professionally practicing Brazilian dance. Her
studies began in California and have taken her around the world. She has performed
in throughout the county in national festivals and has learned from some of the
greatest Brazilian dancers in South America.
Cody also has a background in hip-hop and has taught in many classrooms including
Mariposa’s Art sponsored workshops and the University of California-Davis.
Joey Malak
ACE
Certified Personal Trainer 
Joey joined the Capital Fitness training
team in 2005, bringing 11 years of experience in the health
and fitness field. His clientele include athletes, pre- and
post-natal women, the physically challenged and those whose
goals are better fitness and weight loss.
Joey knows that every road to better health, nutrition and
fitness is unique. He guides his clients to successfully
realize their dreams with a manageable, hands-on physical
training and nutrition program. Each program Joey individually
designs is based on his client’s personal needs and
ability level.
“Fitness and athletics have been my passion all of my life and continue
to be my foundation for living. Strength training has brought me to achieve
my personal fitness goals in body shaping, muscle growth, rock climbing, surfing
and motorcycle racing. Helping others reach their own personal health and fitness

Jim
Manos
Yoga
Jim started his yoga practice in 1992 in Chicago and Iowa
and began teaching 1996. His teaching approach primarily
focuses on developing strength, stability and body awareness
while coordinating movement with breath. His style is a flow
practice that is based in the Iyengar, Anusara and High Energy
styles.
Jim shares the practice of yoga because he loves sharing the benefits of the
art of Yoga with his students.
Katarina Manuse
Katarina developed a passion for fitness,
dance and movement when she took her first dance lesson at
the age of 4. Since then, she's studied tap, ballet, jazz,
swing, belly dancing and contemporary dance for a total of
20 years.
Katie began teaching group fitness in 1995. She graduated
from UW-Lacrosse with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation
in 1999.
While living in Brooklyn, NY, after giving birth to her 2
year old son, Miles, Katie decided to work full-time teaching
Group Exercise. While living there she taught group cycling,
strength, step, kick-boxing and dance for Crunch Fitness,
New York and Town Sports International, and NYSC. Katie and
her family move to Madison in 2007, and so far Katie has
LOVED her experience at Capital Fitness.
She's currently certified with: AFAA, Group Exercise; Powder
Blue Productions, TurboKick; Zumba; Madd Dogg Athletics,

Melissa

Pilates

elissa discovered Pilates while
healing a hip injury over ten years ago. The technique healed
the deep muscle imbalances while the core conditioning added
a new strength and awareness to her professional dance training.
Melissa has taught at Body Evolution, Method Fitness and
The Pilates Lab – all
in New York City. She returned to Madison, her hometown, to continue Pilates
instruction and to pursue additional holistic studies.
Her accomplishments include a Stott Pilates certification, performances with
the USA Ballet, Illinois, the New York Dance Theatre, the Yares Engel Dance Theatre
and the Octavia Cup Dance Theatre. She attended school at the University of Indiana
and the University of Utah.

Indoor Cycling
Lora prides herself on her motivational indoor cycling class. She guarantees
that each class is new and exciting. You’ll never see the same workout
twice!
Lora recently returned to Madison after a brief stint in Colorado. She has been
dedicated to the health and fitness industry for over 15 years and loves sharing
her knowledge with those willing. Her passions include adventure racing, mountain
biking, road cycling, weight training, snowboarding, snowshoeing, camping, running
and triathlons.

Stephanie
Pertzborn
Body Attack, Group Exercise
Stephanie has been teaching group exercise for 14 years. She is a certified BodyPump,
BodyStep, BodyAttack and BodyCombat instructor as well as a certified personal
training.
Stephanie, who also manages Capital Fitness, teaches because she likes to
interact with the members and learn more about them. She is presently focused
on Body Attack classes because she feels that it is a fantastic cardio workout
unlike anything else.

Jori Powers
Jori started teaching aerobics in 1993 while earning her
BA in Environmental Studies and Spanish from the University
of Kansas. She earned her AFAA primary group exercise certification
in 1993. Jori is also certified in Group Strength, Spin,
and Turbo-kick.
Jori is the proud mother of 3 ½ year old twins, (Flynn
and Grace), and an 18 month old son (Reef). Teaching group
exercise classes allows Jori to stay home with her children
and stay fit at the same time. Jori is motivated by watching
her students improve their fitness level,and she finds herself
constantly amazed how much energy teaching brings to her
life.

Kristy Roherty joined the Capital Fitness team in November
of 2007. She previously was the Fitness Director of a prominent
YMCA in LaGrange, IL. Kristy completed her undergraduate
degree in exercise science at Southeast Missouri State and
her graduate degree in exercise science at Concordia University.
Kristy has extensive experience in fitness facility management,
fitness assessments, personal training, and coaching.
Kristin Sage
Yoga
Kristin has been practicing yoga in 1997 and began teaching
2004. She is registered with the National Yoga Alliance
in the study of Alignment Yoga and has expertise in Hatha,
Iyengar, Birkram, Ashtanga and Vinyasa styles.
Her group classes focus on the mind and body relationship and long pose holds
to build core strength with energizing Vinyasa flow. Kristin also focuses on
injury rehabilitation and personal health goals.
Lisa Stephenson
Forrest Yoga
Lisa brings a fresh style of yoga to Capital Fitness. Forrest Yoga, a deep and
thoughtful yoga practiced at warm temperatures.
For the past five years Lisa has been a devoted yoga practitioner. In 2006 she
obtained her 200-hour Forrest Yoga teaching certificate. Her mission as a teacher
is to expose students to an intense style of yoga that can be a part of everyday
life.

Stewart
Pilates and Yoga

Collette began her Pilates career
in New York City where she instructed at various
studios. Her clientele included Christy Turlington, Jane
Pratt (founder/editor of Jane Magazine), Donna DeSeta (DeSeta
Casting Agency) and Alexis Stewart (Martha Stewart). She
also served as a consultant for Julie Bowen (Ed) in conjunction
with Self magazine, published March 2002.
Collette now offers private Pilates instruction and teaches group Pilates and
yoga classes. Her specialty is working with people interested in using Pilates
as a form of physical rehabilitation. She has helped those suffering from injuries
as well as degenerative diseases including Multiple Sclerosis and scoliosis.
Her accomplishments include a BFA Modern Dance from the Texas Christian Academy
and a Pilates Certification from The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado.
Dominic Stryker
Capoeira
Dominic brings a new style of exercise to Capital Fitness. Since 2006 he has
been teaching Capoeira, a Brazilian Martial Art. Capoeira combines fighting attacks,
dodges, counter attacks and dance into a powerful cardio and strength workout.
Dominic began his training in this acrocbatic combat since 1996 in Santa Cruz,
CA. There he studied under highest-ranking Roots of Brazil Capoeira teachers
in the United States. His studies have taken him to Brazil, San Francisco, CA
and Oakland, CA. He is now operating a new branch of the Roots of Brazil School
in Madison.
Bill Sturtevant
Indoor Cycling
Bill is a Certified Indoor Cycling instructor and has been
teaching spinning since 1997. He has attended four World
Spinning and Sports Conferences among many other educational
endeavors. He is a veteran tri-athlete and enjoys sharing
his athletic passion with his classes.
Karen Tao
Group Exercise
Karen is a Capital Fitness Certifited Body Attack instructor who holds class
to keep you moving and grooving. She recently took the jump into instructing
after years of being a dedicated aerobics class student.
Six years ago Karen moved to Madison via Hawaii, California and New York to work
in the psych department at the University of Wisconsin.
Sara Zydowicz
Indoor Cycling
Sara's indoor cycling class offers technical difficulty and loud tunes. She teaches because she enjoys the classroom environment. She often takes her cycling skills and couples them with running in various competitions; that is when she is not golfing or snowboarding.
